FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women's soccer team handed West Liberty a 3-0 setback here Wednesday in Mountain East Conference North Division action at Bobcat Stadium.
Both teams battled the elements throughout as the match was played in a driving rain but it was the Bobcats (4-2-0, 3-1-0) drawing first blood with an Audra Curtin penalty kick in the 15th minute.
Playing with the wind at its back, Frostburg was able to maintain heavy offensive pressure for most of the opening 45 minutes. That paid off again just before intermission when Toni Fiocco-Mizer scored to make it 2-0 at the half.
Coach
Barry Christmas' Hilltoppers (2-2-1, 2-1-1) created a couple of quality chances but FSU keeper Ashley Bilger corralled a short redirect by Kaely Oskin off a corner kick. Oskin later saw a well-struck header sail just over the crossbar.
Frostburg added an insurance tally in the 61st minute to complete the scoring.
Olivia Montgomery had 10 saves in net for WLU to keep the Black and Gold in range for most of the night.
West Liberty returns home to host Fairmont State on Saturday in another MEC North Division match. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at the West Family Athletic Complex.
