SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The West Liberty University women's soccer team made an impressive Mountain East Conference season debut here Wednesday, battling defending MEC champion to a scoreless draw in a double-overtime marathon at Mueller Field.
Coach
Barry Christmas's Hilltoppers (1-1-1, 0-0-1) controlled the run of play for much of the afternoon as the host Falcons (0-1-1, 0-0-1) didn't put a single shot on frame during the entire 90 minutes of regulation and had just one shot on goal in the match.
Following a scoreless first half, West Liberty created numerous scoring chances during the second 45 minutes but Notre Dame goalkeeper Jordan Pasalaqua rose to the challenge with four saves during the period, highlighted by a pair of diving saves, to keep WLU off the board.
Hilltopper keeper
Olivia Montgomery picked up her only save of the match early in the first overtime period, fielding a harmless one-hopper in the 93rd minute. It was the hosts' only shot on goal for the match and the only shot by either team in the two extra periods.
The West Liberty women return home to host Alderson Broaddus on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at the West Family Athletic Complex.
