    BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – West Liberty University softball standout Makenzie Amend is the Mountain East Conference Pitcher of the Week after playing a key role in leading WLU to its second straight MEC North Division title.
    Amend, a junior righthander from Wheeling, W.Va., went 3-0 in four outings including a 2-0 shutout of Charleston. She recorded 31 strikeouts against just 1 walk in 21 shutout innings.
    The hard-throwing ace is now 8-1 on the season with a 1.09 ERA, only being scored on twice in her last 16 appearances dating back to March 21.
    As the MEC's North Division champion, the Hilltoppers open defense of their 2019 MEC Tournament title on Friday when they take on MEC South No. 4 seed West Virginia Wesleyan in a 2:30 p.m. game at the Moyer Softball Complex in Salem, Va.
