Box Score 2 PHILIPPI, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team swept Alderson Broaddus on Sunday in a Mountain East Conference doubleheader at North Philippi City Park.
Coach
Herb Minch's Hilltoppers (7-5, 3-1) handed the Battlers (1-7, 0-4) a 7-0 shutout loss in the first game before blanking the hosts by a 5-0 count in the finale to complete the sweep.
In the opener, West Liberty pounded out 11 hits and a trio of Hilltopper hurlers combined on a four-hit shutout.
Makenzie Amend got the win in the circle, holding AB hitless through the first four innings while striking out eight.
Sydney Little paced the offense with a double, single and three RBIs.
Laral Saunders and
Allie Cook each singled twice and drove in a run while
Kat Donzella also had a pair of base knocks.
Katie Beeman added an RBI single.
Neither team scored until the seventh inning of the second game as Alderson Broaddus' Bailey Adkins blanked WLU on one hit through the first six frames.
The Hilltoppers loaded the bases with one out in the top of the seventh on a walk, single and hit by pitch before scoring on five straight at-bats. After another hit-by-pitch forced in the game's first run, Cook and
Haley Collett followed with RBI singles before back-to-back bases-loaded walks completed the five-run rally.
Riley Bennington and
Annie Paterson combined on a five-hit shutout for the Black and Gold.
