Box Score 2 WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader from Ohio County rival Wheeling on Saturday, prevailing by scores of 5-3 and 10-4 at the WLU Softball Complex.
In the opener, the Hilltoppers (4-4) scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth to snap a 2-2 tie and made them stand up for the win.
Annie Paterson had 8 strikeouts and 1 walk in four innings in the circle while helping her cause at the plate with a double and single.
Allie Cook also doubled and singled to chase in a run.
In the finale, West Liberty exploded for 5 runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back.
Kat Donzella and
Laral Saunders had RBI singles during the first-inning uprising.
Donzella and Cook paced an 11-hit barrage for Coach
Herb Minch's Hilltoppers with three hits each. Donzella had two singles and a two-run homer to drive in three runs while Cook had two singles and a double for two RBIs. Saunders added a single and a double while
Katie Beeman singled twice and drove in a run.
