WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Fairmont State on Friday in a Mountain East Conference match at the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex.
Daisuka Aota and
Gianluca Gerndt teamed up for a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles for Coach Ron Hulewicz's Hilltoppers but the visiting Falcons won at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to secure the doubles point heading into singles play.
Aota and Gerndt came up big again for West Liberty in the singles. Aota downed Fairmont State's Joao Martins, 6-4 6-3, at No. 3 singles and Gerndt powered his way to a 6-0 6-3 victory against Seena Saadevandi in the No. 4 slot but the Falcons took straight-set wins in the other four singles matches to close out the match.
The Hilltoppers don't return to the court until March 20 when they make the long drive east to take on Frostburg State in another MEC test.
