PHILIPPI, W.Va. – West Liberty University head volleyball coach
Riley Schenk picked up her first collegiate coaching win in impressive fashion here Friday as WLU rolled to a 3-0 sweep of Alderson Broaddus at Rex Pyles Arena.
Schenk's Hilltoppers (1-1) took control from the start against the debuting Battlers, racing away to a 25-17 win in the opening set.
West Liberty took a commanding 2-0 lead with a 25-22 decision in the second set before scoring nine of the first 10 points in the third set on their way to completing the sweep with a 25-12 romp.
Nina Billotto and Maddie Clayton dominated at the net for the Black and Gold. Billotto had a dozen kills to go along with 2 blocks while Clayton added 10 kills, 3 blocks and 3 service aces.
Kirsten Bogunovich and
Renee Lemke had 18 and 16 assists, respectively, while freshman
Nyia Setla posted a team-high 14 digs in the back. Senior
Emily Reedy had three service aces to go along with 12 digs.
The Hilltoppers are scheduled to make their home debut on Tuesday when they host Fairmont State in a 7 p.m. match at the ASRC.
