ELKINS, W.Va. –
Audrey Tingle posted a rare triple-double and the West Liberty University women's basketball team never trailed here Wednesday night in rolling to a 78-59 victory at Davis & Elkins.
Tingle, a 5-6 senior guard from West Lafayette, Ohio who leads all active NCAA Division II women in career assists and assists/game, poured in a career-high 21 points while grabbing 14 rebounds and handing out 11 assists.
It was the first triple-double by a WLU woman since All-American
Marissa Brown recorded 41 points, 12 rebounds and 11 blocks against Concord on Jan. 19, 2019.
Coach
Kyle Cooper's Lady Hilltoppers (3-6) took control from the start with Tingle and junior post
Arriana Manzay providing a lethal 1-2 punch.
The 6-3 Manzay – who finished with a game- and career-high 22 points – scored the game's first basket off a feed from Tingle and West Liberty was off and running.
Manzay tossed in six of her points during the early Hilltopper surge and back-to-back 3-pointers from Tingle shifted the visitors into another gear, racing out to a 17-5 lead less than 4 1/2 minutes after the opening tap.
The pace slowed significantly after that but the damage had already been done.
The scrappy Senators (1-8) whittled the lead down under double-figures, 36-28, at the half and made it a two-possession game with the opening basket of the third quarter but came no closer as West Liberty pulled away.
Manzay was 10-for-13 from the floor and added 8 rebounds in just 24 minutes of playing time.
Karly McCutcheon drained four 3-pointers to join Tingle and Manzay in double figures with 13 points.
Allie Taylor's 19 points paced D&E, which also received a dozen points from Marissa Berlin.
The Hilltoppers will be back in action on Sunday when they host West Virginia Wesleyan in a 2 p.m. game inside the ASRC.
