WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University volleyball team picked up its sixth win in the last seven matches here Friday night, sweeping a Mountain East Conference North Division match from Frostburg State inside the ASRC.
Coach
Riley Schenk's Hilltoppers (6-2) came out strong with a 25-15 win in the first set and never relinquished control, finishing off the win by scores of 25-20 and 25-23. The victory completed a sweep of the season series for the Black and Gold, who had swept the Bobcats (0-7) in Frostburg earlier this month.
Nina Billotto and
Madison Clayton set the pace at the net for the hosts. Billotto led all players with 10 kills and 3 blocks while hitting at a .450 clip. Clayton added 9 kills, a service ace and two blocks with a .389 hitting percentage. Freshman
Kaija Sydlowski continued her strong early play, adding 9 more kills to her season total.
West Liberty got another sterling performance from
Kirsten Bogunovich with 8 kills, 21 assists and 8 digs with
Renee Lemke adding 20 assists.
Nyia Setla led all players with a match-high 28 digs. Kaitlynn Fritz and
Emily Reedy also had double figure digs with 15 and 10, respectively.
The Hilltoppers open the final week of the regular season on Tuesday when they head to Fairmont State to battle the Falcons for sole possession of second place in the North. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
