LEXINGTON, Ky. – The honors continue to roll in for West Liberty University volleyball standout
Madison Clayton. One of seven first-team selections on the 2021 D2SIDA All-Atlantic Region honor roll, Clayton has also been named to the 14-woman NCAA Division II All-Atlantic Region Team chosen by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
Clayton, a 6-5 middle blocker and a graduate student from Roseville, Ohio, finished off her record-setting career in impressive fashion by helping lead Coach
Riley Schenk's Hilltoppers to the highest regional ranking in school history.
The WLU veteran earned her third consecutive first-team All-Mountain East Conference berth after leading the MEC and ranking No. 6 among all NCAA Division II women with 148 total blocks. Clayton also ranked among the MEC Top 10 in several other statistical categories and finished her career as West Liberty's all-time leader in hitting percentage at .313.
Clayton also displayed a knack for shining when the spotlight shone brightest. She set a career-high with 21 kills and added 8 blocks in an early-season four-set win against NCAA Tournament qualifier East Stroudsburg. Her career-high of 12 blocks came during a thrilling 5-set loss to MEC champion and top-seeded regional host Wheeling. She also impressed with a 15-kill, 9-block night in a late-season match against those same Cardinals.
Joining Clayton as AVCA first-team selections are the Clarion (Pa.) trio of London Fuller, Julia Piccolino and Cassidy Snider; Audrey Francis, Karly Niesen and Lexi Reinert of Wheeling; Gannon's Lauren Sampson and Ashley McClung; the Edinboro duo of Bella Burrelli and Alicia Eldredge; Macie Magallon of Davis & Elkins; Julia DiPaola of Fairmont State and Bloomsburg's Alyssa Cianciulli.
The D2SIDA All-Atlantic Region Team is selected in voting by sports information directors from the region, encompassing all volleyball programs from the following leagues: Mountain East Conference (MEC), Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA).
The AVCA All-Atlantic Region Team encompasses the same three conferences and is selected in voting by head coaches who are members of the national coaching organization. Players whose coaches do not belong to the AVCA are not eligible for selection.
