    INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The West Liberty University and Wheeling volleyball teams will be fighting it out for a spot in the Mountain East Conference championship game tonight when the Ohio County rivals collide in an MEC Tournament semifinal at the Walker Center on the campus of West Virginia State University.
    Coach Riley Schenk's Hilltoppers (21-12) and the defending MEC Tournament champion Cardinals (25-5) will lock horns in tonight's 7:30 p.m. semifinal. Host West Virginia State (28-3) and Charleston (22-9) play in the other semifinal, set for a 5 p.m. start. Tonight's winners return to the court Saturday at 7 p.m. to play for the MEC Tournament championship and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional.
    West Liberty and Wheeling breezed through Thursday's quarterfinal round with a pair of 3-0 sweeps. The Hilltoppers knocked out Davis & Elkins by scores of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-13 while the Cardinals ended the season for Frostburg State by scores of 25-22, 25-6 and 25-20.
    Fans planning to attend the tournament in person tonight or tomorrow are encouraged to buy tickets in advance online. They're priced at $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and children (5-18). Students with a valid ID will be admitted free. Fans are reminded that masks are mandatory inside all buildings on the West Virginia State campus.
