BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer team scored in the first and final minutes of the opening half here Sunday and cruised to a 2-0 win against West Liberty in a Sunday afternoon Mountain East Conference match.
The Bobcats (7-7-2, 7-6-1) struck quickly against Coach
Barry Christmas' visiting Hilltoppers (6-7-3, 5-6-3). Danielle Jonas collected a loose ball above the top of the box and rifled a 20-yard bullet into the top right corner of the cage for a 1-0 Wesleyan lead less than a minute after the opening kickoff.
The hosts continued to press the advantage for most of the first half and the pressure paid off in the 45th minute when Kameron Bonneau tacked on an insurance score off an assist from Hannah Murphy.
West Virginia Wesleyan finished the match with a 13-4 edge in shots and a 5-1 advantage in shots on goal. Ally Moore made one save in the first half to earn her sixth shutout in net for the Bobcats.
Kaitlyn Taylor made three saves for the Black and Gold.
The Hilltoppers will look to get back on track Wednesday night when they close out the home portion of their 2021 schedule with a 7:30 p.m. match against Davis & Elkins.
