No. 11 West Liberty meets Charleston in MEC Tournament final

    WHEELING, W.Va. – The top two teams in the Mountain East Conference battle for the MEC Tournament title tonight when top-seeded and No. 11-ranked West Liberty takes on No. 2 seeded and regionally-ranked Charleston. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. on Championship Sunday at WesBanco Arena.

    Coach Ben Howlett's Hilltoppers (26-4) downed West Virginia State, 88-81, in Saturday's first semifinal behind 31 points from Will Yoakum and 21 more from Dalton Bolon.
    The Golden Eagles (25-5) got 22 points and 11 rebounds from Devon Robinson to rally past Fairmont State in Saturday's other semifinal.
    Both teams enter tonight game on a roll. WLU has won 9 straight and 20 of its last 21. Charleston has won 8 in a row and 10 of its last 12
    They traded home wins during the regular season. The Golden Eagles handed WLU an 83-73 setback in December but the Hilltoppers avenged that with an 89-79 nod last month
    This is the 106th meeting between the programs. Charleston holds a 59-46 series lead but West Liberty has won 23 of the last 28 matchups.
