WHEELING, W.Va. – The No. 8-seeded West Liberty women take on No. 9 seed West Virginia State this afternoon in the second of two first-round games in the MEC Tournament. Tipoff is set for 2:15 p.m. at WesBanco Arena.

Kyle Cooper's Hilltoppers (12-16) picked up their third win in the last four games on Saturday with an 81-73 victory against Wheeling. All-MEC guards
Morgan Brunner and
Taylor Johnson had 17 and 16 points, respectively, while
Audrey Tingle added a dozen points and 14 rebounds.
The Yellow Jackets (9-19) have dropped 5 straight and 7 of their last 8 after Saturday's 98-75 setback against Charleston. Destiny Fields and Charity Shears knocked down 16 and 13 points, respectively, for West Virginia State.
The WLU women have a 7-5 record in MEC Tournament play. This is the first MEC Tournament match-up between the Hilltoppers and West Virginia State.
It's also the 54th time West Liberty and WVSU have collided on the hardwood. The Hilltoppers have won 20 of the last 24 meetings to take a 40-13 series lead.
The teams traded road wins this season. State took an 87-80 decision at the ASRC while West Liberty prevailed, 74-68, earlier this month in Institute.
