    BOCA RATON, Fla. – The West Liberty University softball team battled the weather and Lynn University here Tuesday and came away with a doubleheader split after a long afternoon on the east coast of Florida.
    Coach Herb Minch's Hilltoppers (7-8) hammered out a 10-2 win in the rain-delayed opener but saw the Knights (12-17) pull out a 2-0 nod in the nightcap, which was halted by darkness after five innings.
    West Liberty scored early and often in the first game, putting it out of reach early with three runs in each of the first two innings and going on to collect 14 hits.
    Seven Hilltoppers had a hit and an RBI as the Black and Gold raked up and down the lineup. Laral Saunders had three singles and drove in a couple of runs while Kat Donzella doubled and singled to pick up a pair of RBIs.
    Katie Beeman's bat stayed hot with two singles and two RBIs while Haley Collett and Conner Assif each added two hits and drove in a run. Allie Cook and Kaitlyn Stress each had a single and RBI. Winning pitcher Annie Paterson had 7 strikeouts and a walk in 5 innings of work and helped herself at the plate with a double in a game that saw nearly two hours of weather delays.
    The delays proved to be a factor in the second game, which didn't get under way until shortly after 6 p.m.
    A sacrifice fly and RBI double produced the only runs of the game for the hosts in the bottom of the third. West Liberty managed to scratch out only a pair of singles before the umpires were forced to call the game due to darkness after the bottom of the fifth.
