First Perfect 10 for Hilltopper Acrobatics & Tumbling

NCATA Final Scoresheet - Glenville State at West Liberty
WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University acrobatics & tumbling team swept all six events and scored the first perfect "10" in program history here Friday night in a runaway 249.800-226.955 Mountain East Conference victory against Glenville State inside the ASRC.
Coach Kelsey Kyle's Hilltoppers (2-1, 2-1) dominated from start to finish, beating the Pioneers (0-2, 0-2) in 15 of the dual meet's 19 heats and closing out the first half with an exclamation point by nailing a perfect score in the Open Pyramid heat.
"We've had our eye on the Open heat in Pyramid all season," Kyle said afterwards. "We thought we had a shot at putting up a big score if we did what we were supposed to do and coming off the mat, I was pretty happy. I was thinking we might get as high as a 9.9, which would have been a school record, but when I heard them say '10,' I almost started crying.
"I know my sister (West Liberty junior base Kenzie Kyle) and I have a rule about no crying," Kyle added with a smile, "but it's OK to cry when you get a 10. The girls were so excited about it and I was so happy for them. That was a great moment for our program."
The Black and Gold opened up a 35.50-28.90 lead after the Compulsory Event and never looked back after pushing the margin to double digits with a 28.05-24.15 decision in the Acro event. The hosts were trailing after the first two heats in the Pyramid event but the perfect score in the Open heat pushed them over the top and they took an 89.90-78.75 lead into intermission
West Liberty swept all three heats in the Toss event and claimed five of the six heats in the Tumbling event to put the match out of reach. The Hilltoppers made it a clean sweep of all six events with an 87.90-83.18 win in the Team event.
"We tried a few new things tonight, experimenting with different personnel combinations in various events to see how it affected the scores," Kyle said. "We have some time before our next match to go back and look at the tape to see which direction we might want to go moving forward.
"We have some things we still need to work on but this was a great win for us and it was a terrific atmosphere. I think the girls really fed off the energy from our crowd and they definitely gave us a lift. We really love the support."
The Hilltoppers don't return to the mat until March 17 when they host Concordia (Wis.) in a non-conference dual at the ASRC.
