GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's basketball team wasn't able to cool off a surging Glenville State squad here Wednesday night as the Pioneers ran away to a 119-82 victory at the Waco Center.
Coach
Kyle Cooper's Hilltoppers (9-14, 5-12) were victimized by an early blitz from Glenville State (19-4, 15-2), which shot nearly 60 percent from the floor in the first half to take a commanding 65-30 lead at intermission.
West Liberty nearly equaled its first half output with a 29-point third quarter but ultimately couldn't find a way to prevent the Mountain East Conference pace-setters from winning their 13th straight game and hitting the century mark for the 15th time this season.
There were some bright spots for the Black and Gold as they poured in 52 second-half points while shooting a blistering 57 percent (21-of-37) from the floor over the final 20 minutes.
Olivia Belknap led the Hilltoppers with a career-high 23 points while
Taylor Johnson added 17 tallies.
Audrey Tingle chipped in with 13 points while grabbing 6 rebounds, handing out 4 assists and coming up with a pair of steals.
The high-powered Pioneers had a trio of players with 20-point nights. Ty Armstrong led all scorers with a game-high 27 points in just 19 minutes of court action while Emily Stoller just missed a double-double with 26 points and 9 rebounds. Zakiyah Winfield backed that lethal 1-2 punch with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.
The West Liberty women return home on Saturday to host Concord. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. inside the ASRC.
