October 22, 2016 (Women's Volleyball)
(With this year's fall semester sports sidelined by health concerns, let's take a look back at what was happening in Hilltopper sports on this date in history. Four years ago today, the WLU women's volleyball team came from behind to steal a big road win at Shepherd!)
Box Score
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's volleyball team stormed back from 2-0 deficit here Saturday to hand Shepherd a 3-2 loss in Mountain East Conference action at the Butcher Center.
Coach Kayla Fetsko-Mull's Hilltoppers (18-11, 6-5) had their backs to the wall after dropping the first two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-23 but the Black and Gold kept the host Rams (8-16, 3-8) from closing things out by hitting the comeback trail with a 25-21 nod in the third set.
West Liberty rode that momentum to a convincing 25-12 rout in the fourth set and scored 7 of the last 8 points in the fifth set to seal the victory with a 15-9 win.
Olivia Baumhoer led WLU with 13 kills and 7 blocks while Sydney Scherer just missed a double-double with 12 kills and 9 blocks. Raimey Benson also had a big match with 9 kills, 10 digs and 5 blocks while Stephanie Leonard added 7 kills and 8 blocks.
