Women's Volleyball | 9/27/2019 6:27:00 PM

Box Score     WHEELING, W.Va. – The West Liberty University volleyball team opened its Mountain East Conference schedule here Friday with a 3-0 loss to No. 21-ranked defending MEC champion Wheeling at the McDonough Center.
Coach Kayla Mull's Hilltoppers (6-8, 0-1) had to hit the comeback trail early after the host Cardinals (11-3, 1-0) got things started with a 25-15 win in the opening set.
West Liberty bounced back with a strong effort in the second set, opening up a 22-15 lead in the latter stages, only to see WU close out the set on a 12-3 run to steal a 27-25 nod.
The Black and Gold led early in the final set, as well, but another strong Cardinal finish completed the sweep with a 25-18 win.
Olivia Baumhoer and Alissa Dickson led WLU at the net with 9 and 7 kills, respectively. Renee Lemke had 18 kills and Kendall Souder added 17 more while Mackenzie Sims had a team-high 8 digs.
The Lady Hilltoppers will be idle this weekend but return to action on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. non-conference match at Malone (Ohio) University.
