WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 shutout of Alderson-Broaddus Tuesday night in non-conference action at the ASRC.
Coach
Kayla Mull's Hilltoppers (5-4) handed the Battlers (4-5) a 25-15 loss in the opening set and never looked back. West Liberty finished strong in the second set for a 25-20 win and finished off the sweep with a flourish, coasting to a 25-16 nod in the third and final set.
Freshman
Alissa Dickson led the Black and Gold with a dozen kills while hitting at a .435 clip. Senior
Olivia Baumhoer added 7 kills and freshman
Kirsten Bogunovich impressed with 6 kills, 5 assists and 4 service aces.
Renee Lemke and
Kendall Souder had 14 and 13 assists, respectively, for the Black and Gold while senior
Kailee Cunningham led all players with 18 digs in the match, which took just over an hour to complete.
Cunningham's 18 digs puts her at 2,107 for her career - just 48 shy of the all-time school record of 2,155 career digs, set by
Courtney Pyeritz from 2012-15.
The Hilltoppers return to action Friday and Saturday when they host an MEC/PSAC Crossover event at the ASRC.
West Liberty takes on Slippery Rock Friday at 1 p.m. with a 5 p.m. match against Shippensburg to follow. The Black and Gold wrap things up on Saturday with a 10 a.m. match against Clarion and and 4 p.m. match against Mercyhurst.
