Men's Tennis Falls in MEC Semifinals

Men's Tennis | 5/4/2019 2:28:00 PM

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's tennis team saw its season come to a close here Saturday with a 4-0 loss to top-seeded and regionally-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan in a Mountain East Conference Tournament semifinal at Marshall University.
Coach Sam McCullough's youthful Hilltoppers put up a good fight against the powerful Bobcats, who entered the match ranked No. 4 in the Atlantic Region and haven't lost to an MEC opponent in two years.
West Liberty's No. 2 doubles tandem of Anton Schulz and Maurits Smit had battled Wesleyan's All-MEC duo of Harry Simaioforidis and MEC Freshman of the Year Christos Kyrillou to a virtual standstill in their match, which was tied at 5-5 when play was halted after the Bobcats notched wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to claim the doubles point.
Wesleyan closed up shop quickly in singles play, posting straight-set wins at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles to end the match and advance to Sunday's championship final.
