GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Seton Hill baseball team broke out the heavy artillery on Wednesday, pounding out 23 hits and scoring in every inning but the first in outslugging West Liberty, 22-6, in a non-conference game at the SHU Baseball Complex.
Coach
Eric Burkle's Hilltoppers (4-21) tried to battle back after spotting the Griffins (14-12) an early lead but couldn't match the hosts' firepower.
Seton Hill got on the board first with six runs in the bottom of the second but WLU's
Coby Eckstein cut the lead in half with a 3-run home run in the top of the third. Eckstein has now homered in three consecutive games.
The Griffins scored again in the bottom of the third to make it 7-3 and then added 11 runs over the next two innings to put the game out of reach.
West Liberty slapped out eight hits in a losing cause.
Colton Coss had three singles and scored a pair of runs while
Jared Houser chipped in with two hits and two RBIs.
The Hilltoppers return to Mountain East Conference action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Notre Dame (Ohio).
