WASHINGTON, Pa. – The West Liberty University men's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 shutout of Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) Tuesday in a non-conference match at the Janet Swanson Tennis Center.
Coach
Sam McCullough's Hilltoppers (2-4) showed little rust from a weather-induced 3-week layoff as they lost a total of just two games in the three doubles matches and swept all six matches from the host Presidents (5-2) in straight sets.
Camilo Moncayo and
Joris Gravoulet got things going with an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 doubles tandem of
Anton Schulz and
Maurits Smit pitched an 8-0 shutout and the pairing of
Akira Kawabata and
Nash Morris did the same at No. 3 doubles.
The same six players cruised to easy victories in singles play to complete the sweep.
West Liberty opens Mountain East Conference play at home on Wednesday with a 3:30 p.m. match against West Virginia Wesleyan at the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex.
