GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women will be facing a tough test but a familiar one on Friday when they tip off their NCAA Division II Atlantic Region quarterfinal at Glenville State.
Coach
Kyle Cooper's No. 8-seeded Hilltoppers (21-9) have been matched up against top-seeded and No. 18-ranked Glenville State (29-2) in the 5 p.m. quarterfinal at the Waco Center.
It will be the fourth meeting of the season between the two Mountain East Conference rivals and the second in less than a week as the Pioneers claimed a 98-85 decision in Saturday's MEC Tournament semifinal at WesBanco Arena.
Glenville also won the two regular season meetings by scores of 122-105 and 112-99 but all three finals are somewhat deceptive as WLU rallied from huge deficits in each game to get back in contention only to see the Pioneers stretch things out at the end from the foul line.
Both teams have been scorching hot coming down the stretch. Glenville has reeled off 20 straight wins while the Hilltoppers have won 12 of their last 14 with the only two losses over that span coming at the hands of the Pioneers.
The WLU/Glenville winner advances to Saturday's 7:30 p.m. regional semifinal against the winner of Friday's late quarterfinal between No. 4 seed California (Pa.) and No. 5 seed Charleston.
