BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's volleyball team will be the No. 5 seed on Thursday when the Mountain East Conference Tournament begins its three-day run at the McDonough Center in Wheeling.
Coach
Kayla Mull's Hilltoppers won a three-way tiebreaker with Notre Dame and Fairmont State for fifth place in the final standings and will take on No. 4 seed Davis & Elkins in Thursday's 5 p.m. quarterfinal.
Tournament action tips off at noon with No. 3 seed West Virginia State taking on No. 6 seed Notre Dame followed by a 2:30 p.m. match between No. 2 seed Urbana and No. 7 seed Fairmont State.
The Hilltoppers and Senators get the evening session under way at 5 p.m. before top-seeded and defending champion Wheeling closes out the quarterfinal round with a 7:30 p.m. match against No. 8 seeded Charleston.
The West Virginia State/Notre Dame winner opens Friday's semifinal session with a 5 p.m. match against the Urbana/Fairmont State survivor. If the Black and Gold get past Davis & Elkins on Thursday, they will advance to Friday's 7:30 p.m. semifinal against the Wheeling/Charleston winner.
Friday's semifinal victors return to the McDonough Center Saturday at 7 p.m. to play for the MEC Tournament championship and the league's automatic bid to next week's NCAA D2 Atlantic Regional.
