SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Mountain East Conference North Division women's soccer rivals West Liberty and Notre Dame played to a scoreless draw for the second time this season here Sunday at Mueller Field.
With the 0-0 deadlock, Coach
Barry Christmas's Hilltoppers (2-5-2, 2-2-2) maintained their 2-point edge over the host Falcons (2-3-4, 1-2-3) for fourth place in the tightly packed MEC North.
Unlike last month's initial encounter at the West Family Athletic Complex, Notre Dame created most of the scoring opportunities in Sunday's rematch but the end result was the same.
The Falcons outshot WLU by a 13-3 margin and had a 6-1 edge in shots on goal but Hilltopper keeper
Olivia Montgomery proved up to the challenge, stopping all six Falcon shots that found their way on frame to earn the shutout.
Coach Christmas and the Hilltoppers return home to host Urbana on Wednesday in another crucial MEC North Division test. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at the West Family Athletic Complex.
