Late Goal Stuns Lady Hilltoppers in Overtime

FROSTBURG, Md. – Brooke Shehade scored with less than a minute remaining in the first overtime period here Wednesday night to give Frostburg State a 2-1 win against West Liberty in Mountain East Conference women's soccer action at Bobcat Stadium.
Coach Barry Christmas's Hilltoppers (2-7-4, 2-4-4) grabbed an early 1-0 lead when Claire Kelly finished off an assist from Nicole Lolua following a throw-in deep in the box during the 23rd minute.
The host Bobcats (6-7-1, 6-5-0) equalized in the 38th minute. A well-struck corner from Shehade was headed home by Abbey Dennis and the teams headed into halftime deadlocked at 1-1.
Neither team scored in the second half with Frostburg keeper Emily Faust foiling several good WLU chances while Montgomery kept the hosts off the board at the other end.
Time was running out in the first 10-minute overtime when the Bobcats mounted their last rush. Montgomery was able to turn aside a shot by FSU's Kori Striano in the final minute but Shehade collected the rebound on the right wing.
As the clock ticked under 30 seconds, Shehade curled a perfectly placed strike just inside the top left corner of the cage for the game-winner.
Frostburg finished with 12-11 edge in total shots but the Black and Gold had nine shots on frame to just six for the hosts. Faust had 8 saves for the Bobcats to earn the win while Montgomery was charted with 4 saves in the loss.
The Hilltoppers will try to get back in the winner's circle on Sunday when they travel south to take on Concord.
