Box Score BECKLEY, W.Va. – Regionally ranked Concord got a pair of first-half goals from Mira Kontio here Sunday and rolled to a 2-0 victory against West Liberty in Mountain East Conference women's soccer action at Cline Stadium.
The Senior Day match was moved to Beckley after this week's heavy rains created poor playing conditions at the Mountain Lions' on-campus facility.
It was the eighth straight win for Concord (13-1-0, 9-1-0), which entered the match ranked No. 4 in the Atlantic Region and maintained constant offensive pressure throughout the match.
Coach
Barry Christmas's Hilltoppers (2-8-4, 2-5-4) stood up well during the early going but the Mountain Lions finally broke through in the 27th minute when Leah Foster and Zoe Belding set up Kontio for a point-blank score.
Kontio tacked on a key insurance tally in the 43rd minute for a 2-0 halftime lead and the Black and Gold couldn't claw their way back in the final 45 minutes.
The high-powered Concord attack outshot WLU by a 23-5 margin and created 7 corner kick chances to 3 for the Hilltoppers. West Liberty keeper
Olivia Montgomery had 5 saves on the afternoon while Concord netminder Leah Marsh made 2 saves to earn the shutout.
The WLU women return home to host Glenville State on Wednesday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the West Family Athletic Complex.
