WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University wrestling team dropped a 40-6 decision to No. 3-ranked Notre Dame (Ohio) in Friday night dual meet action at the ASRC.

Mitch Smith's Hilltoppers weren't able to get anything going against the powerful Falcons, who had nine wrestlers ranked in the top 12 of their respective weight classes when the latest set of NCAA Division II national rankings were released last week.
Notre Dame got off to a fast start. A decision by No. 12-ranked Robert Campos at 125 followed by a major decision from No. 3 Hunter Bray at 133 and a forfeit at 141 put the visitors on top, 13-0.
West Liberty picked up a forfeit of its own at 149 to get on the board at 13-6 but the Falcons got a decision from No. 9 Zach Kelly at 157 and a first-period fall from Anthony Dailey at 165 to all but put the match out of reach, 22-6, heading into the final four bouts.
The Hilltoppers'
Chance Morgan battled No. 6 Cornell Beacham to the wire at 174 only to come out on the short end of an 11-6 decision.
Isaiah Myers battled back from an early deficit to forge a 5-5 tie with Emilio Fowler heading into the third period of their 184-pound matchup. Fowler broke the tie with an escape early in the period and Myers was unable to come up with a takedown before time expired.
Notre Dame closed out the match with back-to-back falls at 197 and 285
The WLU grapplers return to tournament action next week when they make the short trek down Route 88 to compete in the annual West Virginia Collegiate Open, hosted by Wheeling Jesuit.
