WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – Keira Hill scored two goals and assisted on the other – all in the second half – here Sunday as the Charleston women's soccer team handed West Liberty a 3-0 setback at the West Liberty Soccer Complex.
The loss ended a lengthy shutout streak for Coach
Barry Christmas's Lady Hilltoppers (2-5-2, 2-2-1), who hadn't surrendered a goal in more than 400 minutes of match time before the Golden Eagles (4-6-0, 3-2-0) finally broke through in the 61st minute.
Hill served a well-placed cross into the 18 and Roberta Pomi headed into the corner of the net for a 1-0 UC lead. Hill pushed the count to 2-0 in the 66th minute when she finished off an assist from Alana Mikulis and added an insurance tally in the 79th minute off a ball from Alexis Scales.
Charleston outshot West Liberty, 13-4, in the match as Kaylee Hensley and Carol Burgess shared the shutout with a total of 3 saves.
Lauren Hartnell had 5 saves for the Hilltoppers with
Kaitlyn Taylor picking up 2 more after coming on in the 77th minute.
The WLU women host West Virginia Wesleyan on Thursday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at the West Liberty Soccer Complex.
