Hilltopper Men Fall in MEC Semifinals

Men's Tennis | 4/21/2018 4:09:00 PM

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The No. 4-seeded West Liberty University men's tennis team dropped a 5-0 decision to top-seeded and regionally-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan in a Mountain East Conference Tournament semifinal at Marshall University's David Fox Tennis Center.
The Bobcats, who entered the tournament ranked No. 3 in the Atlantic Region, swept all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead into singles play. The match was halted after Wesleyan clinched the verdict with a pair of singles wins.
Coach Sam McCullough's Hilltoppers didn't go down without a fight.
The Black and Gold's No. 2 doubles tandem of Nick Liddy and Matt Lynch battled the Bobcats' No. 2 pairing of Raymond Rodriguez and Harry Simaioforidis to the wire in the match of the day.
Neither side gave an inch as they traded wins throughout to end up in an 8-8 tie, forcing the marathon match into a tiebreaker. Unfortunately for the Black and Gold, the Wesleyan duo pulled out an 8-6 nod in the extra session to complete the doubles sweep.
The Bobcats picked up straight set wins at No. 2 and No. 6 singles to close out the match and end the Hilltoppers' season.
