Hilltopper Softball Drops Two to Concord

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team dropped both ends of a Mountain East Conference doubleheader to Concord Saturday afternoon at the WLU Softball Complex.
Coach Herb Minch's Hilltoppers (11-7, 5-11) fell by a 4-2 count in the first game before seeing the Mountain Lions (20-20, 9-7) come from behind to claim a 6-4 verdict in the finale.
In the opener, Concord jumped on the hosts with three quick runs in the top of the first and held on for the win. Sydney Bennington and Kelsi Johnson each smacked out a pair of hits for the Hilltoppers while Damia Mogielski and Samantha Kilbane chipped in with RBI singles as part of a 10-hit attack.
The second game saw West Liberty grab the early lead with a pair of first-inning runs but the game see-sawed back and forth before the visitors snapped a 4-all tie with single tallies in the sixth and seventh frames to complete the sweep.
Nicole Chris paced the Hilltoppers with a double, two singles and a pair of RBIs with Nicki Mihalik adding a pair of singles in a losing cause.
West Liberty will try to bounce back on Sunday when the Black and Gold welcome UVa-Wise to campus for a noon twinbill.
