WLU Women Drop Pair at Notre Dame

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The West Liberty University softball team wrapped up the regular season here Saturday by dropping both ends of a rain-delayed doubleheader at Notre Dame.
Coach Herb Minch's Hilltoppers (15-31, 8-24) fell by a 6-1 count in the opener before the host Falcons (23-28, 13-19) came from behind for a 9-5 victory in the finale.
In the first game, Notre Dame scored two first-inning runs and held West Liberty off the board until the top of the seventh to notch the win.
The Hilltoppers avoided the shutout by bunching three of their seven hits in the final frame with Samantha Kilbane driving in the Black and Gold's only run with a two-out single. Kelsi Johnson doubled and singled to lead the WLU attack.
West Liberty jumped out to an early lead in the second game with three runs in the top of the first but couldn't hold off the hard-hitting Falcons.
Notre Dame cut the gap to a single tally with two runs in the bottom of the first and put the game out of reach with a five-run uprising in the bottom of the third.
Johnson had another multi-hit game with two singles and two RBIs. Julie Tenney doubled and singled while Sydney Bennington and Damia Mogielski added two hits each. Kylee Ensign and Morgan Vickless chipped in with RBI singles.
