WLU Women Earn Split on Senior Day

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – Megan Bosley and Linda Hall combined on a 5-hit shutout here Sunday to help the West Liberty University softball team split a doubleheader with Fairmont State at the WLU Softball Complex.
Coach Herb Minch's Hilltoppers (14-26, 7-19) dropped a 5-3 decision to the Falcons (15-25, 8-14) in the first game but rode the strong arms of Bosley and Hall to a 2-0 shutout win in the finale.
It was Senior Day on the hilltop with Kylee Ensign, Nicki Mihalik, Damia Mogielski, Nicole Chris and Julie Tenney all being honored prior to the start of the final weekend twinbill on their home diamond.
Tenney put West Liberty ahead to stay in the second game with a run-scoring double in the bottom of the second and Sydney Bennington pushed the count to 2-0 with a fifth-inning RBI base knock.
That was more than enough offense for the WLU pitching staff. Bosley blanked Fairmont on four singles through the first five innings before Hall finished the visitors off with two innings of one-hit relief.
Mogielski gave the Black and Gold an early 2-0 lead with a 2-run single in the first inning of the opener but the Falcons plated a single tally in the second and added four more in the fourth to build a 5-2 margin.
Mogielski doubled and scored on an error in the bottom of the sixth, cutting the gap to 5-3, but the Hilltoppers couldn't come any closer. Mihalik and Chris each had a pair of singles to back Mogielski at the plate as WLU pounded out 10 hits in a losing cause.
West Liberty closes out the home portion of its regular season schedule on Wednesday with a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader against Ohio County rival Wheeling Jesuit.
