ELKINS, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's tennis team rolled to its eighth straight win here Tuesday afternoon, knocking off Davis & Elkins, 7-2, in non-conference action at the Thomas Tennis Center.
Coach
Sam McCullough's surging Hilltoppers (11-4), No. 2 in the latest set of NCAA Division II Atlantic Region rankings, got off to a fast start by sweeping all three doubles matches. The Black and Gold then closed up shop by taking four of the six singles matches as the Senators (8-8) saw their own five-match winning streak go by the boards.
Baptiste Perrin and
Santiago Gutierrez claimed an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles with
Matt Tully and
Luke Flanagan cruising to an 8-2 blowout in their No. 2 doubles match.
Pablo Cimorra and
Camilo Moncayo had to go to a tiebreaker in their No. 3 doubles match with D&E's Clifton Spitsnaugle and Jack Clifton but the WLU duo dominated the tiebreaker by a 10-3 count to complete the doubles sweep.
Perrin, Tully and Cimorra posted straight-set wins in singles play to clinch the victory with Flanagan coming from behind for a three-set win at No. 5 singles.
The Hilltoppers return to action on Thursday with an afternoon match at West Virginia Wesleyan.
