WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's tennis team stepped out of Mountain East Conference play on Saturday and walked away with an 8-1 victory against Cedarville (Ohio) at the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex.
Coach
Sam McCullough's Hilltoppers (6-4) won two of the three doubles matches to grab the early lead before sweeping all six singles matches from the visiting Yellowjackets (8-10) to win going away.
Baptiste Perrin and
Santiago Gutierrez teamed up for the win at No. 1 doubles with
Matt Tully and reigning MEC Player of the Week Andy Ponder taking the nod at No. 2 doubles.
Perrin, Gutierrez, Tully and Ponder followed up their doubles victories with straight set wins in singles play.
Camilo Moncayo and
Luke Flanagan provided West Liberty's final points by winning at Nos. 5 and 6 singles, respectively.
The Hilltoppers return to MEC action on Tuesday when they head south for a 3 p.m. match at the University of Charleston.
