Lady Hilltoppers Sweep Salem International

Box Score WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader from Salem International Thursday afternoon at the WLU Softball Complex.
Coach Herb Minch's Lady Hilltoppers (9-13) needed only five innings in each contest to hand the visiting Tigers (8-22) a matching pair of 9-1 setbacks.
Charley Troggio bashed out two doubles and drove in a pair of runs while Sydney Bennington had two singles and scored twice for the Black and Gold in the opener. Samantha Kilbane had a triple and Kelsi Johnson added an RBI double while Nicki Mihalik, Savannah Sieger and Julie Tenney all chipped in with RBI base knocks.
In the second game, Megan Bosley and Taylor Wright teamed up in the circle to hold the visitors to just two singles with Bosley working the first three innings to pick up the win. Bennington led the Hilltoppers at the plate with a double, two singles and an RBI while Troggio homered and drove in three runs. Kylee Ensign and Kaitlyn Higginbotham each had a single and an RBI.
West Liberty hits the road this weekend with a Saturday doubleheader at Fairmont State and a Sunday twinbill at Shepherd. Both are set for 1 p.m. starts.
