INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 shutout of West Virginia State Monday afternoon at the Mills Tennis Courts.
Coach
Sam McCullough's Hilltoppers (5-4, 1-0) didn't lose a set in the mutual Mountain East Conference opener against the Yellowjackets (0-8, 0-1).
Santiago Gutierrez and
Baptiste Perrin notched an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles with the No. 2 doubles pairing of Andy Ponder and
Pablo Cimorra breezing to an 8-1 victory. That 8-1 win was duplicated at No. 3 doubles by the WLU tandem of
Camilo Moncayo and
Matt Tully.
The dominance continued in singles play as Perrin, Ponder, Gutierrez, Tully, Cimorra and
Luke Flanagan all posted straight-set wins to complete the sweep.
The West Liberty men return home to host Tiffin (Ohio) on Friday in a 3 p.m. match at the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex.
