West Liberty Softball Falls at Charleston

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston's powerful pitching staff hurled a pair of shutouts here Saturday afternoon in sweeping a Mountain East Conference doubleheader from West Liberty at the UC Softball Stadium.
Coach Herb Minch's Hilltoppers (7-11, 3-5) came out on the short end of a 9-0 count in the opener and fell by a 5-0 score in the finale against the host Golden Eagles (17-8, 7-1).
Fresh off a regional title and trip to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight last spring, the UC pitching staff extended its current scoreless inning streak to 33.2 consecutive frames with Saturday's twin shutouts.
Hilltopper ace Savannah Sieger saw her own scoreless inning streak halted at 17.1 straight in the opener when Charleston broke through to score four runs. The Golden Eagles tacked on five more tallies against the WLU bullpen later in the contest, ending the game after five innings due to the "mercy rule." 
Kylee Ensign and Linda Hall had the only two hits for West Liberty, both singles.
The second game was scoreless until the bottom of the third when Charleston pushed a pair of runs across. The hosts added a single tally in the third and put the game on ice with a two-run homer in the fifth as Jessie Rowe blanked the Hilltoppers on three hits. 
Sydney Bennington, Damia Mogielski and Kelsi Johnson all singled in a losing cause for WLU.
The Hilltoppers will try to bounce back on Wednesday when they head to Wheeling for a 5 p.m.doubleheader against Ohio County rival Wheeling Jesuit.
