West Liberty, Notre Dame Split Softball Twinbill

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team split a pair of extra-inning pitchers' duels with Notre Dame (Ohio) Monday afternoon at the WLU Softball Complex.
Coach Herb Minch's Hilltoppers (6-6, 2-2) came from behind to pull out a 2-1 win in the 8-inning opener but the Falcons (9-8, 1-3) broke up a scoreless tie with a 2-run home run in the eighth inning of the second game to earn the split with a 2-0 decision.
Savannah Sieger led the way for the Black and Gold in the opening game win. Sieger went the distance in the circle to improve to 4-0 on the young season, striking out 2 and issuing only one walk.
Sieger also scored the winning run, leading off the top of the eighth with a double to centerfield, moving to third on a sacrifice bunt and coming home on an infield error. Sydney Bennington had a double and single while Samantha Kilbane delivered a game-tying 2-out RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.
Notre Dame's Taylor Olson traded zeros with a trio of West Liberty hurlers through the first seven innings of the second game but the Falcons broke the scoring ice in the eighth when Maria Vanadia launched a 2-run blast over the left field fence.
Olson held WLU to three singles and never let a Hilltopper past second base in a complete-game win.
The West Liberty softball team steps out of conference on Tuesday when Malone (Ohio) visits the WLU Softball Complex for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
