WLU Women Split Home Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team split a Mountain East Conference doubleheader with Urbana on Sunday at the WLU Softball Complex.
Coach Herb Minch's Hilltoppers (5-5, 1-1) hammered out a 9-3 win in the second game after seeing the Blue Knights (5-5, 1-1) escape with a 3-1 nod in the opener.
The Black and Gold spotted Urbana an early 2-0 lead in the finale before rolling out the heavy artillery. West Liberty tied it up with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second before batting around in the bottom of the fourth to break the game open with a 6-run uprising.
Kelsi Johnson drove in a pair of runs with a double and a single while Samantha Kilbane picked up three RBIs with a couple of singles. Damia Mogielski doubled home a pair of runs and Kaitlyn Higginbotham had a single and two RBIs.
Savannah Sieger picked up the win with five innings of one-run relief, striking out five while issuing only two walks.
The opener saw Urbana snap a 1-1 tie in the top of the seventh by combining a pair of infield singles with a walk, an error and a hit-by-pitch to push two runs across the plate and pull out the win.
Julie Tenney accounted for half of WLU's four hits with a double and a single.
The West Liberty women will be back in action again on Monday when they host Notre Dame (Ohio) in a noon doubleheader.
