Hall Sharp in Loss to Bloomsburg

Softball | 3/13/2017 1:17:00 PM

Box Score SALEM, Va. – The West Liberty University softball battled defending PSAC champion Bloomsburg to the wire here Sunday only to come out on the short end of a 4-2 decision.
Damia Mogielski put Coach Herb Minch's Hilltoppers (2-4) on top with a two-out RBI double in the top of the first and for several innings, it looked like that might be enough.
West Liberty starter Linda Hall turned in a sparkling performance. The rising sophomore from Cameron, W.Va. carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning, opening the fifth frame with her ninth strikeout of the game.
The Huskies (5-3) broke up Hall's no-hit bid with a one-out single and the Hilltoppers went to the bullpen. Bloomsburg loaded the bases with back-to-back singles and capped the uprising with a pair of two-run singles to take a 4-1 lead.
West Liberty didn't go quietly, pushing across an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh and bringing the potential winning run to the plate but the Huskies got the final out to preserve the win.
The Hilltoppers continue their southern swing Monday afternoon with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Fayetteville State (N.C.)
