WLU Tennis Drops Opener at Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The West Liberty University men's tennis team opened its spring break trip to Hilton Head on Saturday with an 8-1 loss to No. 46 Palm Beach Atlantic (Fla.) at the Chaplin Park Tennis Center.
The host Sailfish took control of the match early by sweeping the three doubles matches. Pablo Cimorra and Camilo Moncayo put up a good fight at No. 3 doubles but came up just short, falling by an 8-6 count to PBA's Philip Hoffmann and Thomas Salmon.
Coach Sam McCullough's Hilltoppers got off to a much better start in the singles competition as Baptiste Perrin, ranked No. 50 nationally, rolled to a straight set win against Pata Zarazua by scores of 6-1 and 6-4.
Unfortunately for the Black and Gold, they couldn't build on that momentum and the Florida squad won the last five singles matches to close out the win.
West Liberty will try to rebound on Sunday when the Hilltoppers return to the Chaplin Park complex for an 8:30 a.m.match with Hillsdale (Mich.).
