URBANA, Ohio – The West Liberty University volleyball team knocked Urbana out of a tie for second place in the Mountain East Conference here Friday night with a convincing 3-1 win in their regular season finale at the Grimes Center.
Coach Kayla Mull's Hilltoppers (18-13, 9-7) took command early with 25-19 and 25-16 victories in the first two sets. The Blue Knights (18-15, 10-5) stayed alive with a 25-17 nod in the third set but West Liberty breezed to a 25-18 decision in the fourth set to close out the match.
Raimey Benson had a team-high dozen kills for the Black and Gold while Amanda Leonard stuffed the stat sheet with 8 kills, 17 assists, 9 digs, 2 service aces and a block. Stephanie Leonard added 8 kills and 4 blocks while Olivia Baumhoer contributed 7 kills and 3 rejections. Kendall Souder led WLU with 20 assists and Kailee Cunningham was charted with 13 digs.
West Liberty has clinched a spot in next week's Mountain East Conference Tournament. Seeds and pairings will be announced this weekend
