WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to defending Mountain East Conference champion Wheeling Jesuit Thursday night at the ASRC.
Coach Kayla Mull's Hilltoppers (11-9, 2-3) came out on the short end of a 25-14 count in the opening set. The hosts rebounded to lead by as many as six points in the second set only to see the Cardinals (14-4, 5-0) reel off 10 unanswered points to gain the upper hand before hanging on for a 25-22 decision. Wheeling Jesuit – which has never lost an MEC match – closed out the sweep with a 25-18 nod in the third set.
Caitlin Clarke had 7 kills, 2 aces and 9 digs to pace the Hilltoppers while
Raimey Benson added 7 kills and a pair of blocks.
Renee Lemke paced WLU with 15 assists while
Mackenzie Sims topped the 'Toppers with 13 digs.
The West Liberty women – who were playing their fourth match in the past seven days – will have the weekend off before returning to action on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. match at Glenville State.
