WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's volleyball team powered its way to a 3-1 victory against Charleston Friday night in a Mountain East Conference match at the ASRC.
Coach Kayla Mull's Hilltoppers (14-10, 5-4) spotted the Golden Eagles (10-10, 6-2) an early lead by dropping a 25-22 decision in the opening set but bounced back to square the match with a 25-16 rout in the second set.
Charleston appeared on its way to victory in the third set with a 23-18 lead but the Black and Gold stormed back to take command with a 28-26 victory and polished off the win with a 25-21 nod in the fourth set.
Caitlin Clarke had another big night for West Liberty, leading the team with 13 kills and 16 digs to go along with two blocks and a service ace.
Raimey Benson backed Clarke with 10 kills and four blocks while
Sydney Scherer and
Stephanie Leonard worked the net for 16 kills and 11 blocks.
Amanda Leonard just missed a double-double with 24 assists and 9 digs while
Kendall Souder also made a run at a double-double with 21 assists and 9 digs.
Kailee Cunningham added 16 digs and a pair of service aces.
The Hilltoppers return to the ASRC boards on Saturday for a Senior Day match against West Virginia State. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
