Box Score BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The No. 4-ranked West Liberty University men's basketball team shot a blistering 74 percent from the floor in the first half here Tuesday night and rolled to a 97-76 rout of West Virginia Wesleyan at Rockefeller Arena.
The scrappy Bobcats (5-9, 2-6) hung with Coach
Jim Crutchfield's Hilltoppers (13-1, 7-1) for most of the opening half before WLU scored six of the last eight points to take a 51-41 lead at the break.
West Liberty pushed the lead out to 59-45 on a conventional 3-point play by
Dan Monteroso and never looked back, leading by as many as 26 points down the stretch.
The Hilltoppers cooled off just a bit in the second half but still finished the night shooting a sparkling 64 percent (40-of-63) from the floor, which included an outstanding 11-of-19 (58 percent) showing from behind the 3-point arc.
True freshman
Clay Guillozet came off the bench to lead all scorers with a career-high 20 points while
David Dennis and
Devin Hoehn added 17 points each. Monteroso finished with 13 points and Arnold rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points to go along with 6 assists.
Zac Grossenbacher fell just short of a double-double with 7 points and 9 rebounds.
Wesleyan was paced by Kevin Kangni and Luke Layhew with 17 points each.
West Liberty returns home to host UVa-Wise in a Saturday afternoon tilt. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. at the ASRC.
