WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's tennis team made an impressive 2016 debut on Wednesday with a 9-0 blanking of Grove City at the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex.
Coach Sam McCullough's perennial Atlantic Region powerhouse had no trouble with the NCAA Division III Wolverines (0-3), rolling to six straight-set wins in singles play after losing a total of just three games in doubles action.
Baptiste Perrin, Andy Ponder, Santiago Gutierrez, Matt Tully, Camilo Moncayo and Pablo Cimorra posted singles wins for the hosts.
Perrin and Ponder pitched an 8-0 shutout at No. 1 doubles while Gutierrez and Moncayo coasted to an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Tully and Luke Flanagan teamed up for an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
