Hilltoppers Sweep Notre Dame on Senior Day

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday with an impressive doubleheader sweep of Notre Dame (Ohio) at the WLU Softball Complex.
Coach Jim Bacca's Hilltoppers (13-39, 6-24) rallied to a 7-6 win in the opener before pounding out an 18-10 victory against the Falcons (15-32, 9-21) in the finale.
Taylor Zieger was honored during Senior Day ceremonies as the lone senior on the WLU roster.
In the opener, Nicki Mihalik ripped a pair of three-run home runs and Nicole Chris added an RBI single as WLU came from behind for the win. Taylor Paladino, Kelsi Johnson and Kylee Ensign all had two singles for the Hilltoppers. 
Notre Dame put runners on second and third with one out in the top of the seventh but Savannah Sieger bore down to strike out the next two batters and finish off the complete-game win.
West Liberty wrapped up a wild second game with a huge sixth inning, batting around to score seven runs and end the see-saw affair via the mercy rule.
Mihalik capped a great afternoon by driving in five runs with a triple, double and single while Kelsi Johnson belted a home run, added three singles and chased home six runs. Sydney Bennington drove in three runs with two doubles and a single and Madison Collett had three singles and an RBI. Ensign drove in two runs with a pair of singles and Paladino had another multi-hit game with a triple, single and RBI.
The Lady Hilltoppers close out the season at home on Sunday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Urbana.
