Hilltopper Men Coast Past Davis & Elkins

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's tennis team tuned up for this weekend's Mountain East Conference tournament on Monday with an 8-1 rout of Davis & Elkins in non-conference action at the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex.
Coach Sam McCullough's regionally-ranked Hilltoppers (15-5) swept all three doubles matches and posted five straight-set wins in singles play to roll past the Senators (9-10).
Baptiste Perrin and Santiago Gutierrez were victorious at No. 1 doubles with Andy Ponder and Matt Tully teaming up for the win at No. 2 doubles. Martin Moncayo and Pablo Cimorra rolled to an 8-2 triumph at No. 3 doubles.
West Liberty got singles wins from Gutierrez, Ponder, Moncayo, Tully and Luke Flanagan.
The Hilltoppers, who shared the MEC regular-season title with Charleston and West Virginia Wesleyan, are the No. 2 seed in this weekend's MEC Tournament at the Schoenbaum Tennis Complex in Charleston.
Having earned a bye through Friday's quarterfinal round, West Liberty will take on the winner of Friday's Charleston/Shepherd quarterfinal in a 2 p.m. semifinal on Saturday.
